How to Reach Tarragona

  • By train: http://www.renfe.es
  • By bus:
  • By plane:
    1. Fly to Barcelona (BCN) - (90 kms. far away from Tarragona). Basically you can take either a direct bus from Barcelona airport to Tarragona, or a train from Barcelona airport to Barcelona-Sants and then from there to Tarragona. Our recommendation is in favour of the first alternative, but your decision will crucially depend on the bus schedule, which is rather poor (4 buses a day, departing from a station in between terminals A and B). The price: 11.25 euros one-way. After 1 hour, the bus will leave you at the main bus station in Tarragona, which is located at Imperial Tarraco square.

      Bus schedule from/to Barcelona Airport:
      Tarragona-Barcelona Airport
        5.30
        10.15
        15.15
        19.30
      Barcelona Airport-Tarragona
        8.00
        12.30
        17.00
        21.00

Regarding the train (http://www.renfe.es), in the Barcelona airport there is a railway station, at the end of a long corridor having a red roof. You should purchase there a ticket to Tarragona (price: around 6 euros one-way). You will take the train departing every half an hour until Barcelona-Sants (third stop: 20 minutes). There, you have to take the train to Tarragona by moving to platform 5 (please check). Notice that the last train departs at 21:30 appr. You have to take a train called either Catalunya Express or Regional Express or Regional (regional trains), not a long-distance train, which is far more expensive but not faster. Regional trains depart every half an hour or every hour, depending on the time of the day (likely, at H.03 or H.33). The final destinations may be Tortosa, Mora d'Ebre, Reus, Valencia, Zaragoza. The trip takes one hour almost exactly. In most cases, Tarragona is the fourth stop, but in some cases may be either the third one or the fifth one. You will identify it (provided the sun still shines) because it is the first stop from where you can see the Mediterranean sea.

    2. There is a small airport (Reus - REU) 15 km from Tarragona where some low-fare companies fly to.
There is a shuttle bus which can take you from Reus airport to Reus city (central bus station or railway station). A ticket (one way) costs 2 euro. The buses schedule can be found at:
      http://www.reustransport.com or
      http://www.costadoradaonline.net/Reus_Aeropuerto.html

From Reus you can take a bus (Hispano Igualadina) or the train to Tarragona.

    3. More far away there is Girona airport (GRO) to which low cost companies like Wizzair or RyanAir also fly. The cheapest way to reach Tarragona from Girona airport is to take first the shuttle bus from airport to Girona railway station (about 1.5 euro). Then take a regional train to Barcelona - Passeig de Gracia stop. There, on the same platform comes another regional train to Tarragona. Also, it is possible to get down at Barcelona-Sants stop, but you have to change the platform in order to take the train to Tarragona. The cost of the two trains is about 10 euros.
